Algooru is a educational startup based is SA. Since it's launch in 2021 it's mission is to connect students with private tutors and facilitate tutoring lessons.
Problem
Lack of operational efficiency and scalability: Managing lessons manually through WhatsApp limits Algooru’s ability to scale and created scheduling and tracking inconsistencies.
Low user engagement: Lacking personalized notifications and reminders reduces opportunities for retention and loyalty
Absence of a dedicated digital product: The initial app version did not meet core user needs, preventing Algooru from building a strong digital presence and driving growth.
Business goals
Automate lesson management: reduce manual lesson management efforts by 80%
Launch a dedicated product
Process
Starting with: Looking at data we already have
After meeting with the product team, I defined my research goals:
Identify communication pain points
Identify opportunities for automation and improved user experience
Research methods?
1) Chat analysis ( 100+ conversation )
Looking at chat to identify if there’s any pains/needs that clients face when communicating on Whatsapp groups
2) Support Tickets ( 70+ )
Looking at chat to identify if there’s any pains/needs that clients face when communicating on Whatsapp groups
Identifying Pain points
After collecting and analyzing data there was couple of problems that surfaced, the 2 most highlighted were:
Lesson scheduling problems
Even with a fixed tutoring schedule, the constant back-and-forth to reschedule sessions due to unforeseen circumstances can be frustrating and time-consuming for both students and tutors, leading to a potential loss of learning opportunities.
Subscription (package) tracking problem
Customers and tutors are experiencing uncertainty due to the lack of transparency around remaining hours in a tutoring package, leading to missed learning opportunities and potential revenue loss for the company.
Is it time to reframe the problem?
Neither the time nor scope were going to allow us to work on all the problems 😵💫 So after meeting with the Product owner + Head of Product, we decided to go with focusing on the subscription tracking and lesson tracking problem.
Time to think about user stories, and Prioritize ideas
Here's a sneak peak of the ideation session and feature prioritization I had with the product owner
Final solution
Building an app for students and their parents to manage tutoring lessons.
Iterating, iterating & a little more iterating 🤓
After couple of rounds of going over my designs with the stakeholders, We reached our final solution, and it was ready to ship!
Celebrating moments 🤩
Confirming and rating your private session
Complete visibility over subscriptions
Allowing users to track subscriptions and never miss an update
And a couple more things
Handoff and Development
I had direct communication with the UI developer, we went on couple of meetings to address concerns, do minor edits and add some animation, this collaboration was so fun and the IOS app was launched successfully within the time frame.
